Sharon Vermilye, R.N.
President
Sharon Vermilye, R.N., is the President and Founder of Angels On Duty. A 1985 graduate of Missouri Baptist Nursing School, Sharon has dedicated her career to identifying and providing exceptional caregivers for the elderly. Her extensive experience in home health and private duty care significantly enhances the expertise she brings to our team.
Sharon’s commitment to caregiving stems from a deeply personal experience. When her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, Sharon brought her into her home, which profoundly affected her family. At the time, Sharon was the Director of a major home health company in St. Louis. Despite her professional background, she found herself needing reliable assistance to provide the round-the-clock care her grandmother required.
The caregiver she employed proved to be exemplary. One morning, when Sharon asked her grandmother about the night with the caregiver, in a rare lucid moment, she remarked, “I had an Angel On Duty.” This simple yet profound statement confirmed for Sharon that she had found the right person to provide care. This experience was the catalyst for founding Angels On Duty, Inc.
Sharon’s approach to caregiver selection is deeply influenced by this personal experience. “We never anticipate needing help or bringing a stranger into our home,” she reflects. “Every time I interview a potential employee, I consider whether I would want this individual in my own home with my grandmother.” Inspired by her grandmother’s adage, “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice,” Sharon’s goal is to ensure that caregivers uphold this principle.
Sharon’s vision for Angels On Duty is centered on providing compassionate, dedicated, and conscientious caregivers. “I aspire for Angels On Duty to be not the biggest, but the best provider of in home care services,” she states. Her commitment is to deliver an exceptional experience for each client, reflective of the care she once sought for her own family.
